Board of Directors Meeting Minutes
June 16, 2010

Minutes of last meeting

Initially, approval of the minutes could not take place because there was not a quorum present.

Later, Kent moved approval of the minutes and Terry seconded; passed

Committee Reports

Financial Report
Alan reported that the donations were up from the previous year but there were some increased expenses due to Andrew's bonus, insurance charges and the unusual purchases of equipment. There were no questions.

Technical Report
There was no technical report due to Johnathan's absence.

Review of Town Hall Meetings

Alan and Jeff have attended most of the town hall meetings. At the first meeting, there were 12 outsiders, 5 at the second and none at the third and fourth meetings. Everyone made a brief presentation which was videotaped. Andrew will post them on YouTube. There is probably no point in having more town hall meetings.

Possible collaboration with ACORN-NS

Since Terry was not present at this point, Marilyn moved that we go in camera for this part of the meeting.

Marilyn moved that we come out of in camera session and that we be kept informed of and involved in the ACORN WiFi project, Jeff seconded.

Canada's Digital Strategy

Since Andrew was not present there was no report or submission to discuss. Terry noted that we can comment on existing submissions or put in a new submission.

Other business

An email was circulated from the Dal Math Department about the smoke coming from the Dal equipment. They were very happy that CCN averted a potential fire. The Board is grateful to Johnathan and Andrew for their diligent and timely actions.

There is still a problem getting equipment installed in the Dalhousie building. Although we have approval in principle, nobody in the facilities is prepared to give specific permission. We should find out who gave permission in principle. Jeff will look into it and maybe Terry can get more information from John Sherwood.
