Board of Directors Meeting Minutes
January 29, 2002

Minutes of January 10, 2002 Meeting

Moved to accept with amendments by John McKay, seconded by Bill Matheson. Carried.

CEED project

Deferred until next meeting, with a request for the persons involved to post reports to the board list so that board members may read and comment.

Inner City Project

Deferred until next meeting, with a request for the persons involved to post reports to the board list so that board members may read and comment.

AGM

There has been a tentative booking of the North End library for the 12th of March for 18:00 through 21:00.

Board nominations for the AGM are being organized by Bill Matheson. We have six positions to fill, three members will be re-offering. We have potential replacements for two other positions, and one vacancy. We will encourage nominations for candidates who will broaden the perspective and diversity of the CCN board.

Appointment of Auditors

Moved by Grace Paterson, seconded by Mark Rushton that Susan Hannah be approved as auditor and that Chris be asked to check on her availability.

Committee Reports

External
Active in AGM organization.

Internal
Investigating newsletter. Submitted report on membership reactions to planned 56K upgrade. The majority of text-user respondents and the overwhelming majority of Chebucto Plus users appear to be in support of the upgrade.

Finance
No report available. We have $14,427 income to date this year.

Technical
CCN has acquired two new servers, one of which is working. The other appears to be faulty, but it is not known what components are not functional.
The Plus homepage is to be moved to one of the new servers, it is currently experiencing difficulties.
UPS automated shutdown issue is un-resolved.
Chebucto Plus authentication has been experiencing problems due to an unexplained software failure during the night.
Virus checking: Chebucto is currently filtering for some e-mail viruses which have been seen to cause heavy system load for the mail server. Additionally, individual Chebucto users who appear to have virus infections are contacted by the Policy committee. Subsequent action is referred to the Tech committee.
The tech monitoring system appears to be insufficient and have a high enough false-positive message rate to make detection of serious problems difficult.
It was suggested that the Technical committee be expanded to better deal with these issues.
It was suggested that the office voice-mail system be upgraded.

Other Business

There will be a meeting on Friday to discuss relations between the CCN and the Halifax Regional CAP Association.

It is agreed that Andrew will submit the proposed resolution for legal opinion.
